OVERVIEW

The Songs They Sang involves a 27 track CD and a feature documentary. A selection of songs and music on this CD featured in The Songs They Sang documentary by director Rohan Spong.

The CD contains twelve songs written in the Vilna Ghetto during the Holocaust and ten of these were arranged / recomposed by Australian composer Joseph Giovinazzo. The current arrangements have preserved their original Yiddish dialect. In addition to the songs, Joseph Giovinazzo also wrote 13 original compositions.

The majority of the tracks were performed by the following Australian musicians: Deborah Kayser (soprano), Michael Kieran Harvey (piano), Caerwen Martin (cello) and Aaron Barnden (violin).
